Here is my Tokyo Toy haul! Coming back to Qatar, how I wish I could have bought more. Tsk tsk. When we went to Tokyo, I already allotted a budget for Mavis and I for buying stuff that we may want. However, when already there deciding what to buy becomes a problem. There are so many things you have to choose from and though a budget is already set, it becomes difficult to justify splurging on all the things you want. Then you end up regretting not buying them once you come back. And this is probably a lesson for us to not to be too scared of spending when a budget is already set.

My Toys! My Precious!

We have a lot of Tokyo loot but I’m just posting my own loot this time. For Gundam stuff as well as other Mecha/Robot toys, your best bet would be at a Yodobashi Store. Go to the one in Akihabara as it is the biggest one there is. Loads and loads of Gundams, from the old ones to the newest model. They also have stickers, markers and the ActionBase stands for your Gundams. Do note that though you’re buying a Gundam in a box, it doesn’t include the base stand so you have to buy those separately. Make sure you’re getting a base fit for the size of your Gundam!

You can also get your Anime and other figures in Yodobashi but those are limited. I suggest you go around Akihabara and look at stores and compare. However, one of the best place to look for figures is in Kotobukiya. After exiting the JR Station, Akihabara Exit, it’s the yellow building right outside and has floors choke full of shops selling figures and other Otaku items. You’ll get to see some of the most expensive figures as well as old school, out of print items, gashapon figures, etc. We actually found very rare Inuyasha figures that we bought for a bit more than what they would have cost in 2003 but you don’t get to see these items anywhere. You also get to pick Gashapon toys instead of trying your luck on the Gashapon Machines. They can be bought in sets or by item but a bit more expensive since they were  already picked for you.

Loved these Transformers figures!

Valkyrie VF-1S! Great find!

November 20, 2010 (Saturday) – According to our itinerary for today, we were supposed to wake up before 10 AM to go to Ikebukuro and visit Sunshine City, Konica Minolta Planetarium, Namja Town (where you have the Ice Cream City and Gyoza Stadium)  and the Toyota Showroom Amlux. And if we have more time, we were to go to Nakano and go straight to Nakano Broadway for more Otaku shopping (figures and Mangas). However, upon waking up, Mavis and I decided that we needed to really rest or we won’t be able to make it another day of walking. We slept again after waking up before 8 AM and woke up at about 11. Xiane didn’t even wake up till we woke her up!

Since B-Site Akihabara was just about 30 steps away from the main road of Akihabara, we just decided to go around Akihabara again.

Toys and figures abound everywhere you look!

Toys and figures abound everywhere you look!

Since we didn’t really have breakfast, our first stop was supposed to be McDonald’s  . Xiane had been clamoring for a McD since she saw one in Harajuku, hoping to eat some Grilled Chicken sandwhich. Based on our map, McDonalds in Chuo-Dori was several blocks away and that meant passing all the shops that beckons you to enter them. As you may know now, we are suckers for UFO Catchers and that where we ended up with.

As you can see above, we did win some items today!  Yehey! Though we wanted to keep playing, we were also getting really hungry so our quest for McD continued. We finally found it after 5 more minutes of walking!

McDonald’s was into promoting their iCon Chicken burgers so we ordered some to try them out. The menu they had was very minimal and Xiane was hoping to get a Children’s Meal to get a free toy but there were no indications that they were offering any so Mavis didn’t even ask when ordering. Later on, I found out they they were available but not heavily advertised like in other countries.

Missing her Grilled Chicken!

Missing her Grilled Chicken!

The iCon burgers we’re ok. There was nothing really special about them but basically Chicken fillets with different sauces. The Ebi Filet-O was muhc like the Fish Fillet they serve anywhere else except that it didn’t smell as much like fish and was softer and mushy. I like it even better than the Fillet-O fish. Xiane’s assessment? Not good at all. She missed her Grilled Chicken burger! Ha ha ha…

More of our Akihabara walk next!

Japanese Curry in Doha

Here is my take on the Japanese Curry!

Found some Japanese Curry Paste in one of our Supermarkets, Megamart, here in Qatar so I decided to cook some Japanese Curry. Bought some beef, onions, carrots and potatoes plus some secret ingredients and ended up with the lovely Japanese Curry that I just finished eating!

Wifey even suggests it’s better than our curry at Go Go Curry! (read our Go Go Curry experience in Tokyo here!)
